Though that is the best place to fish, don't expect to catch much if any thing. The up river levels are very low causing the pH of the water to be dramatic high. The fish will not be biting and I personally would not swim in the river. Plus there is no potable (drinkable) water in the park due to plumbing difficulty of the upgrades in the park. Go to Blanco S.P. instead. The fishing should be awesome there. Water levels are maintained better there and will be less crowded. You would never find me in the Guadalupe River State Park during this week, ?Memorial Day, or Labor day. Just not worth it.

Down river there is a large U so there are usually deep spots where the river meanders and decent sized catfish. BUT just left there a week ago and the whole river was very low and I couldn't catch a cold.

In the evening, after all the swimmers are done! Best spot for me is going down river by the rocks! I use worms, they work good there!
