I believe the front doors are locked, but you could certainly walk around the side of the fort to get in. The museum and rooms are worth seeing, though, if you can get there before 5. They give you better perspective about the fort's purpose.
It is unlocked and locked at 5pm. Snd the museum is well worth it, you can climb around just be careful we went and looked over but walked down steps backwards, a little easier. Sad, no one there to answer questions
Short path from the lot to fort doors. You can walk inside the fort and go inside some buildings. One was closed when I was there. It's a museum I believe. Also there are a few foundations in the center area. But it has all the fort walls and is a legit fort.
