Some animals are brought to us for that reason. They are suffering and at the end of their lives and their owners ask that we do that final merciful act for them. We have always offered that service for all animals including horses. On the other hand animals that are healthy and placeable we make all attempts to place them in loving homes. We do our absolute best for every animal that comes through our doors.
Shelters that “take all animals” can’t possible house or care for the enumerable amount of homeless pets out there. They will tell you they believe the worst place for them is on the streets to face the elements. They profess that animals are values & every effort is made. Yes, true, but they know that most of their intake goes to 3 places (& it’s legal: 1) laboratories, 2) veterinary schools, 3) euthanized. To “keep the blood off their hands” they might assign numbers of animals to a third party who delivers them to a fate worse than death. I’ve dealt with this group, & they have evasion answering questions of this topic down to a science. And they say can’t give specifics because each day is different. And example conveyed to me by the owner/manger: “A farmer brought in 20 baby ducks. We had no place for them, so they were all euthanized.” Well, I am sure that benevolent farmer believed that he was saving them. He would not have surrendered them to be killed.
They are very deceptive. They try to make people believe that animals are only euthanized if they are sick. This is not true. They euthanize for space. People need to use common sense. They take in thousands upon thousands of animals a year. They do not have a facility large enough to hold that many animals. If you call to check on the animal you left, they will tell you they found a home, but they tell everyone that. Ask them how many animals they euthanize a year. They won’t tell you, because the number is astronomical. Do not take animals to a Humane Society that tells you that is none of your business. It is everyone’s business and they should be required to provide that information when asked. How many animals did you euthanize last year? How many did you take in? How many did you adopt out? All fair questions for an above board humane society.
They only euthanize animals too sick to be rehabilitated.
No they don't they find caring homes for animals
I took my daughters dog there a week and a half ago. He was aggressive with the neighbors dog. I called to check on him today and found out they put him down because he was being aggressive with staff. He has been around all kinds of people and kids. Even my daughter's baby. He was good with her.He was never aggressive with humans only other dogs We trusted them. We are heartbroken. He was only 4.😭
I brought in a litter of healthy baby raccoons I asked if they had the facilities to care for them they said yes. They weren’t even there 24 hrs before being euthanized. I thought I was doing the right thing. I had other options, but I thought this was the best one. When I called to check on them he said they had been euthanized because they do not have the facilities to care for every animal that comes thru there. This place is terrible makes claims he is understaffed I can’t imagine why animal lovers wouldn’t want to work there. Acts like he only euthanizes sick animals is false. Those poor babies I feel so much guilt for taking them there. I should have read the negative reviews, I just seen the 4.6 stars and assumed it was going to be a good deal even tho the people I spoke with were so rude.
They want you to believe and agree with their way of dealing with unwanted animals. In reality they are causing more animals too not be fixed because they will take all the unwanted offspring every time a car or dog has litters. They should require the parents be fixed before taking in all their offspring
