Are you still required to make an appointment to take your road test or are you able to just come and take your road test at any opening available?
No. No DDS provides a car for the road skills test. An option would be to contact a driving school, such as Alfa Driving School, and pay for a road test package which includes a brief lesson before the test, picking you up, use of the car for taking the road skills test, and dropping you off. Although, I don't recommend doing this without at least one 2 hour lesson before booking a road test package. That's because a driving school's instructors know what you need to do so that the DDS examiners don't fail you. A driving school can get you skills you need for the straight line reverse, parallel and reverse parking, which is the first part of the test, and if you don't get that much right, the DDS examiners will absolutely refuse to take you out on the road for the second part of the test.
