Normally you should contact the IRS to confirm your tax return was received. You can ask if there was any problem with processing the return, or issuing a refund. Call IRS's main customer service number at 800-829-1040. But yesterday we spoke with a manager from IRS Taxpayer Account Services. She explained (in surprising detail) how and why so many refunds have just not been cleared for issue. The logistics of IRS employees' COVID isolation are a partial cause. Another cause is an unusual spike in refund fraud in recent returns. The IRS mail handlers, return processors, telephone reps, even their computer programmers and trying to catch up. So unfortunately, I think you'll just have to wait it out.
We have done this (all automation with no information). We have gone as far as contacting and getting support from our state representative. They have been in touch with the IRS but they (The IRS) continues to stall on answering...
