Geese are on the water early and remain most of the day. They feed. I never witnessed the Trumpeter Swans leaving the water except to move to a more productive feeding area. At dusk you can expect geese to fly to and from fields where harvested grain remains.
That would be a site to see. We were there over the weekend from 10 AM to noon and saw several flocks of 1000's flying in but the main flock was already settled in.
We were there around 1pm to 3pm and there were 1000s of birds on the water. And this was last week.
