When is the best time to see the elk and bison in the open

Early afternoon

I have been twice. The first time was around 5PM we didn't see anything. The second time was around 2PM, saw about 30 bisons in a meadow.

At least during warmer/hot seasons, it felt like midday was not a good time to go - too hot. The second time we went, we did see bison and it was morning.

I think the sign says around 7ish..both times we've went though we saw plenty of bison. The elk are a little harder to see, but we did see some
