While the park is pretty and the drive is great, we unfortunately didn’t see much wildlife! We went early in the morning, so might not have been a great time. We did finally see a herd of buffalo in the distance which was really neat. But hey, they’re wild animals and the park can’t control their behavior! It was still a scenic drive with a few birds.

I visited the Elk & Bison Prairie on Easter Sunday afternoon, 4/16/22. Upon arrival, I saw 2 elk way up ahead, crossing the road. As I drove around the loop, I didn't see any other wildlife. I continued driving until I came upon a pick-up truck & a few cars pulled over. There was a huge herd of bison, grazing very close to the road! I pulled over to watch them & my car was soon surrounded by bison! The pick-up truck driver was a wonderful staff member (volunteer?) who eventually turned her truck around & very carefully attempted to disperse the herd. I told her I was thrilled to just sit there & watch, so she assisted the cars stuck behind me to get through. I spent the next hour plus, soaking up the magic of what I was witnessing. It was the BEST Easter present ever & I'll never forget it! This experience was probably the best $5 I've ever spent. 💝

I think we hit this at the perfect time of the year. Spring. Tons of wildlife to see close to the pathways right next to our vehicle. Great for kids and adults. You can do the entire drive in about 20-25 minutes.

We went during peak time which was about 5 pm and we got to see the bison up close. They were right beside the road and crossing the road. You definitely want to take your time while you are there. The elk aren't as easy to see.. you have to really look for them. We could hear elk bugling before we actually saw them. Our kids loved it.. Great experience!

Yes, they finished the culverts and have opened.
Yes they do approach your vehicle especially the bison, and they will rub up against your vehicle to scratch. If there is a baby waiting to cross the road a big bull will stand in road until all get across. Do not attempt to get out of your vehicle! THEY ARE WILD ANIMALS. The ELK are BUGELING now, they are extremely dangerous. STAY IN VEHICLES. PLEASE
Yes it is. There is a $5 fee per car
Is this place open today by chance?
Yes! We were there earlier this week and everything was open.
I live in owensboro and it takes me 1and a half hours to get there but worth it. Little expensive but worth it

Yes,i went Thursday the 18th of June.
When I called 2 weeks ago they said they were repaving the road there and depending on the weather (rain) will depend on how quickly it will reopen.
