It's a perfect place for kids to snorkeling but make sure they have their shoes on, the entire shore has coral rocks...littlerlly rocky.
This beach is one of the best ones in the keys. Once you get past the first strip of rocks its amazing

We were there this weekend 7th of July. The water's clean except for some sea weeds. It's warm and wonderful. Near the shore, it's very rocky. If you're not careful, you'll cut your skin. My daughter had her beach shoes on. We had to wear one, too. But the beach is a lot cleaner than Smathers
It's the best beach near downtown Key West. The beach is of modest size and very clean. The parking lots are close to the beach. So you can store the shoes and slippers in the car and fetch them if needed. Personally I didn't need slippers while on the beach.
The beach is beautiful, hot water, perfect, despite the rocks. It has great cafeteria, bathrooms, lovely place!

The beach is beautiful! The sand is a little rough. There is a string of hard rocks right before the shore line. I would definitely bring some water shoes.
