It's open all year it is not private it's a destination like any tourist area. It's really pretty in the winter but the hills can be treacherous if your not used to driving on big hills in inclement weather.
Hocking Hills is open all year, and a wonderful place to vacation and escape. I recommend renting cabin at one of the many locations in the area, personally I have used Hocking Hills Cabins on several occasions. During the summer months, the whole area can get pretty busy, so I recommend the fall months, not only for the fall colors, but for less tourists, as this is a place I frequent often. This is Ohio's premier natural destination, with millions of years of rich history scattered throughout its hills and gorges, it makes it the place to be in Ohio to escape and enjoy mother nature and our connection to everything around us.
Yes it's open year round. Just becarful walking on the trails in the winter time. They could be slick and icy and, in most places, it's a long way down if you fall!
It is open year round. Lots of fun in the winter, rent a cozy cabin after hiking in the woods.
The area is open all year, and there are pros and cons to visiting during the summer and off season. Make sure to dress in layers when hiking and be aware of the sunset; most parks "close" at dusk.
