Neutered animals have less tendency to roam around searching for mates..dogs,cats etc Takes awhile for all hormones to get out of system but usually calms most a bit. Young animals are still more full of energy so they do not just calm greatly when neutered
My male cat was younger when he was neutered. It took about 3-4 days of healing and he was good to go and back to his crazy self. I don't believe it changes their personality.

I have two female sister cats that were also spayed and have no problems with them whatsoever they are the most calmest adorablest cats you can imagine.
Recovery was easy after first few hours. Pain meds cause cat to be drunk acting. Staggering, trying to jump and missing her Target. After meds wear off it's fine Personality still great. Maybe better
My male cat was neutered at a younger age, so I can't rightly weigh in on personality changes. My cat is mellow and quiet, which I like. I would hope not on the personality change. Good luck.
