Make an appointment over the telephone. It's better in person. If not successful with DC37, go to NYCERS at Jay Street, Downtown Brooklyn, with all your applicable paperwork and identifications. On a few weekdays, they are open late until 7 PM: https://mynycers.nycers.org/MyNYCERS/ Be grateful to all of us here for helping you and say thank yous and click likes. Dc37 death benefit is $10,000. It is $2,000 to the beneficiary if the member has retired.

I've been in person... I filed the paper work.. but the check was only 2,000... I feel like something ain't right about that amount... or am I bugging?

You would have to contact DC 37 directly. Also, if your father had a will in place, make sure you know and understand what is in the will so there is no issues down the line.
