Barn Owls occasionally roost in the barn (picnic tables) but Great Horned Owls are much more common roosting in the rafters. There is a Barn Owl box attached to the building but not sure it's been used. You are more likely to see one roosting in the trees east of the barn which line the southeast pond. Watch at dusk for them to fly out. Winter months are the best time to visit and the Sandhill Cranes are spectacular.
Barn owls have nested under the metal roof over the picnic area. I did not see a successful nest last year. It is possible they are using the site again, but I haven't been over to look. I would guess Feb-Mar would be when you have the best chance of seeing them, as that is prime nesting season. Barn owls might use the same area as a year round roost, but there are many great horned owls in the same area and they will prey on barn owls.
