Why do I have to give my Social Security Number? Will anyone who knows my number have access to this?

I think they use like the last four digits as a patient ID number or something. I've gone there a ton and never thought twice. I don't think they sell any info

Lea, I understand what you're saying and agree there ought to be a better way. If it's for a drug test, the SSN is used as a unique identifier. In fact, for DOT testing, the regulations require it. For non-DOT drug tests, to be consistent, the SSN is normally requested by the collector, and also because everyone knows their SSN. Unless the employer requires a full SSN, you can offer the last 4. If you don't want to do that, then you can provide another number. But the reporting system needs a unique number. We have, on occasion, used DL number or cell number. Or course cell numbers can change, and if you move from one state to another your DL number will change too. Most employers want some form of SSN though. I do know that all of our software reporting software truncates the numbers and the cloud platform is secure. Hope this helps.
