Not sure but if this town by National Park than there are 2 camping sites inside Park.. if you are disabled you get in free. Maybe same for seniors, not sure. Even if you don't campein park go when you get up tomorrow. Enjoy. PS I just saw answer RV in it. If you are driving an RV find the nearest Wal Mart. Most allow you to stay overnight or during the day.
Gooney Creek 3. 7 miles away. If you open up your Google Map and do a search for campsites you'll see there's a ton of them around there.
Inside the park there's Mathews Arm campground around mile marker 22. Dickies Ridge Visitor center is around mile marker 5. Inside the park is Black bear country. So check with a ranger if you are not familiar with camping in bear area. Makes no difference whether you are in a RV or tent. Check with a ranger. If you are in a RV, the Front Royal entrance has 12 foot 10 inch clearance. The Thornton entrance has 12 foot 8 inch clearance as does the bridge on skyline drive just South of the Thornton entrance. Some site's in Matthews Arm can handle a 35 foot rig. I recommend giving the park general information number a call to verify the "Only couples can take in a RV" before making any decisions about going with a RV.
Only a couple can take rvs...
I would recommend visiting the shenendoah state park's website and referring to specific details for Dickey ridge. Contacting at the number provided at the website can give exact idea for camping site
