It was probably a more spectacular place before the settlers that slaved people, took the land from the Indians

I was wondering why there were so many cacti , Was it used to keep the enslaved people on their plantation? And if the Chapman's still owned it somehow seeing as though their buried on the property. Its a beautiful place although it's history is ugly.
