Like flying, it depends on how far you book in advance. There's a sweet spot. I cat tell you that to book 6 weeks to a month in advance is cheaper than 2 weeks before.
Never rented a car for two weeks. What you can do. It cost you nothing to create a Fadtbreak account. And then you can just, whenever the mood hours you just go online and the dates that you want. I find that depending on the time of day, and day off the week, the rates changes. Having a Fadtbreak acct., if the price seems good you can just rent it in advance. I believe you can save up to about 5 rentals to your account. (5-7) deleting ones you don't want up to a day or so before actaul date. Deleting all others keeping the cheapest ones. Check the credit card you use. Most cover the insurance of the car.
