The Massasauga or "swamp" rattler is very shy. They tend to flee when humans are in the area. They will bite if threatened or stepped on. I have only seen two in Michigan and both were in swampy environments. I hike, fish, camp, canoe and have been all over the state for many years.
Michigan rattle snakes are indigenous to the region. However, living here in MI since birth i have never seen one.
Rare. A few in north Ann Arbor, "stay on trails" clearly marked and they mean it (just 1 out of hundreds of parks in A2).
They are not there just like the dnr says mountain lions aren't here
No they are not a native species to Michigan.
Never seen any....camp every year at Fishermans Island
