In most cases, Medicare and Medicaid cover the cost of the hospice benefit, and most private insurance policies cover most expenses. If she has insurance it should cover the costs. Otherwise, someone would have to be responsible for the costs. I just lost my son one month ago today. He had only been at ST Vincent's Southside Hospice for two days when he passed away. From my experience with the people there, I would highly recommend this location. My son was made comfortable and received good care the short time he was there. Plus the care doesn't stop when your loved one is gone. They have a grievance program that is available to any of the family who might need help afterwards.
