The closest LIRR stations are Garden City and Westbury. It's a short taxi ride from there.
As someone else said, the Long Island Railroad to the Merrick station on the Babylon branch. From there a taxi or Uber would be your best bet.
LIRR from Penn Station to Freeport and NICE bus (metrocard works in that one) that goes to Nassau College and back. Worked fine last year for two foreigners ;)

I can't see why you wouldn't be able to get there with public transportation if you really had to. However, I'm 99.975% sure it's going to be *really* inconvenient. Your best bet is to drive if you have a car.
