Not really, Mineola would be a better station for taxis and is not far from Garden City
It's just off the main road. There's a little building that has ticket machines there and the entrance to the NY bound ramp is on that side.
Most parking around 7th Street and other commercial areas tend to be free but timed. They will chalk your tires and write you a ticket if you overstay. There is no free parking around the train stations. Also make sure your inspection and registration is up-to-date as they ticket for that as well.
