I'm buying a vehicle in Ohio, but I'm a Virginia resident and I'm registering the car in VA. Can I get temporary tags to transport the vehicle from Ohio back to VA? Or is there anything else I can apply for?

You can obtain a Trip Permit from DMV (you can do it online). It is valid for 3 days and the cost is $5.00 if you already have insurance on the car, or $45.00 if the car is not insured.
