As a member of the local neighborhood and infrequent customer I have never understood the disparity between the enormous markup you charge on virtually every item and the generally substandard service. Is it difficult to find decent staff?

They might have a huge rent every month and have to charge higher prices. Organic/green products usually cost a lot more than non organic/green products, and it probably is the same on the wholesale side. And being one store they don't have the buying power that whole foods has so no quantity discounts. That's why convenience stores have higher prices, it's usually one or a small chain of stores that don't get wholesale prices that s Stop and Shop would get, but your paying for the convenience of getting in and out quickly. Plus the fact that they have a swimming pool over their heads (google maps the location. I'll wait.....oh your back already)? Did you see it? The apartments (or luxury condos if they want to add $500 more to the rent every month) must be hell on their property insurance bills every month, so they have to pay it somehow and it's going to come out of the customers pockets. Theres always Dollar General across the street if you don't want organic products....

They also pay their staff extremely well along with giving healthy organic natural products. Your talking about a high standard grocery in downtown new haven. Your paying for location accessibility and quality

I think the change from regular market to a organic, health food store and the prices they charge that certain aspects of the business have suffered...

Didn't have any issues with the staff but they charge rediculous markups

I think the staff are very friendly and helpful! Yes, the prices are high. But it’s a trade off for healthier, organic foods and covenice of being right down the street. I won’t dis the staff though.
