It's my first time going to an airport. This question may sound dumb but do I go directly to the terminal my flight says or the main building?

You go directly to the particular airline terminal and check in. There is only three terminals in MCI airport so it's very easy and as you drive in there are neon signs that let you know what your airline terminal is.
