Hello martha i work at the austin state hospital for the adolesence and children. Your son is able to call you at any time as long as he is having safe behavior and he knows your number. The operator may or may not know where your son is located. He does have the right to refuse to talk to you if he wants.
I doubt anything could be done over the phone immediately. Typically institutions like this require you to have a passcode that is specific to the patient before they can share any information, including whether he is even in the hospital or not. With that said though, I would still call. Explain the situation and see how you can get in contact with your son under these circumstances. It may be as simple as them taking your information, without confirming that he is in the hospital and giving your information to him so he can contact you.
Thank you Breckon Carter. My son is not in his right state of mind if he happens to be there. And he lost all of his belongings when he got arrested yesterday at a Motel he was at in Austin.
