It is highly recommended that you go online and select and purchase your seats in advance. That way you will be able to ensure that you have a seat and that it is not too close to the screen.
When we went, we did not make reservations, but it was during the week, not a weekend.
I always buy in advance for a popular movie in first couple weeks. Otherwise, no.

You can also upgrade once you arrive if you want table service +blanket pillow (this premium section if farther back from screen & elevated). However, this is more likely after 1st week(s) of a popular movie. Otherwise, premium seats are likely to be taken.
If it is a popular movie you should make a reservation especially if you like sitting in a particular section, but you do not need one
