Kids of ALL ages will find something. There is abundant history there and lots of interactive exhibits for kids less inclined to sit and read the plaques near the static displays.
Definitely great for kids 8 and older. There is a lot of reading involved so younger kids may not get it.
My 9 yr old granddaughter loved it as well. However, plan on spending the entire day there. You can go out for lunch and then come back. Totally worth the time spent. You can take the metro and be within 2 block walk.
My 11 year old grandson loved it.
Would not suggest for 9 or under.
