Do I need to own my own home? Can I adopt cat in an apartment. I'm really asking for someone who has an apartment and thinks they can adopt.

You do not need to own your own home to adopt a cat! We just need proof of your current address to adopt to you. Checking with your landlord first would be wise to make sure of any rules they have. Yes, you need to get permission and probably pay a pet security deposit.

I believe you can with written permission from the landlord but you can call them to verify.
