This place has had some ghostly hauntings attached to it. The ghost of Eliza Jumel, the mansion’s former owner appeared on a balcony above and told a group of field-tripping schoolchildren to shush. When the tardy curator finally arrived to open up the house, she insisted that the house had been empty. Also reports of shadowy figures and a painting of a Hessian soldier seen stepping out of it as well.
I took a tour there 35 years ago. Lived in Washington Heights. I saw George Washington in the front room. I also saw him at the White Plains house I was born in White Plains and saw him in Mount Vernon.
