Definitely don't feel the pond is dangerous. The only *issue* I have noticed recently or on last visits is there is a big rat population in Central Park and they roam around more freely at night/dusk. Nothing like the Eiffel tower infestation but gross enough.
Not sure what a pond means but we were there for four days totally safe never saw anyone acting strange police presents very high some rifle armed. Nite and day didn't feel uncomfortable at all.
Which pond ? ... in the park itself its totally safe. Full of people most of the time i am sure you will enjoy your time
