It should be noted that the park, just like everwhere else in the Northeast, will vary with respect to time and quality of the Autumn colors. Sections of the park are full of hardwoods and can be specectacular. My favorite area is the northern reaches but wooded areas are everywhere. I chose to come to NYC in the fall and next time I would always like to come back in the fall ... NYC is always a delight, but I believe that autumn has something magnetic that enchants you for the rest of your life. autumn colors in NYC are different than the rest of the world!
