Cost of repair depends on exactly what has failed. The power supply has to get 2 signals from the main board to turn on the backlights, then has to generate sufficient voltage to light them. The LED strips behind the panel have to return feedback to indicate the amount of current being used. A failure at any point in that process will cause no backlights and a black screen. The most common failure is the LEDs shorting or opening on the strips due to being driven beyond their maximum ratings new out of the box. Some sets will require complete replacement of the backlight strips, some will require only a few individual LEDs to be replaced. As part of any repair we work on the power supply to reduce the amount of current flowing through the strips, resulting in a substantially longer life after the repair is complete. I will have to examine the set and see what my own costs will be to quote an estimate, but that is free. No upfront charges or fees until the set is ready for pickup.
