Use baking powder instead of cleaners to make the barrier around your tent, just a solid line. Nothing with bleach. This really works. Blend into the ground when you leave.
Create a barrier by sprinkling powder Comet or Ajax around the area you don't want ants to invade. My grandparents and mom have always done this when we camped (around the tent, around the feet of the picnic table) and it works pretty well... at least until someone stepped on or kicked dirt on the barrier, creating an opening for the ant army. When you leave the campsite it's easy to clean up/rub out with your feet or a broom.
When you go to the beach ants and flies are part of the natural environment, enjoy the clean air, the sun and the waves.
Keep all the food containers closed after getting food out of them. Avoid dropping food at Picnic tables and clean up any food droppings, when it occurs
Good question....but no answer for you. The flies bother me more.
