Kathrynn McCoy | Sep 23, 2019

This masonry fort was built after an attack in 1668 where much of St. Augustine was burnt to the ground. The Spanish had built several wooden forts along the coastline in the 80 years prior, but were finally deemed inadequate. Construction began in October 1672 and took 23 years to complete.
