The parking lots are for reserved parking passes and they have people to validate your pass. If that person would allow you to enter, you could drop them off at the front steps.

I take free shuttle from Regents garage
My suggestion is drop them at college park metro station and have them take the free shuttle. Easy and you don't have to deal with traffic.
