Yes you can bring your own food. They also allow you to leave and return anytime during the same visit
I have been there 6 times and haven't even thought to bring food. But NEVER has someone asked to check my bag. I would say be respectful about it. Maybe keep bottles of water in a back pack and some snacks. Leave to eat and come back.
No your really not suppose to. Sometimes they ask you to open your purse. Not always. All they can do is have you take it back to your car i think.

No its frowned on. I have had to open my purse but not everytime. They prefer you do not bring outside food in.
