Last I knew, the one on display was a replica because people kept trying to touch it. Or was that just something I heard on National Treasure? :-) However, ...with the new Liberty Bell interpretive center, they have a segment of a replica for people to touch, so who knows... it could be the real one again... I'm sure the real answer is "hiding in some secure vault in an undisclosed location and if they told us they'd have to kill us."
The REAL Liberty bell is hung in the bunkers of Mt Cheyenne. It will be rung in the case of a nuclear showdown with Russia to warn everyone that the blast doors will be sealed in 5 minutes.
The real one is on display in Philadelphia, near Independence Hall.
It is lacated at N 6TH St and Market St. We were just there 3 days ago and told it was real. Who knows though. You go through a security check point and can't have any food or gum. It is free and informative.
I thought it was the real Liberty Bell. It was roped off and you had to go through a security checkpoint scanner for yourself and any belongings.
