Yes they do adopt out cats. I've been several times and always see a few waiting for a home. To be sure, it is best to call before you go. 😸
There are a few agencies that bring in cats and dogs for adoption events. Typically adoption events are on the weekend. You can call PetSmart and PetCo to find out when the events will occur. We adopted our dog from OFOSA because we couldn't make the adoption event at PetSmart. They have pics and descriptions of their animals on Petfinder.
I think it depends on availability. On a moral standpoint, please don't get animals from petco or petsmart. They never allow the animals to get out of the cage to stretch their legs, the animals are often sickly due to malnourishment and medical neglect. They have a 30 day guarantee to replace animals that die, bc it is so common. Reputable, caring businesses do not have that as they care for their animals and sell healthy and happy creatures.

Last time I was there I think I remember seeing one or two. Other times I haven't seen any. Best to call the store to find out for sure. But I know they do adopt out cats.
