Hospitals aren't magic. At night there is less staff working on something or some that usually has another five people there. Then there is the line of communication, most would think that you could pick up a phone and call but literally sometimes your only given a page number which tells the other person to call you back otherwise you can't get in touch. On top of that there could be call outs, people that are making a stink and taking resources just to put out that fire. But what sucks most of all is that people don't realize that staff isn't just confined to one part of the building or floor. So literally a doctor could have a paitent on the west floor building three and then the north, south and east floor two, nine and eight. Yet because your on floor five that must mean that everyone near you is also stuck on floor five. This doesn't include paitents who are super needy, super angry, super frustrated or in a lot of pain. They are people taking care of people. No super powers
As a nurse who works for the hospital I can tell you some of the main reasons for the delay usually include number of people who need scans, number of people who need urgent scans, and the number of Radiologists currently reading them. If it's after hours it's standard for hospitals to use radiologist from if they're partying which also can impact result timing.
As a staff member, we get very busy around here. May I suggest waiting until the morning, as every private Doctors office are closed right now. If in the E.R., they might be really busy for it to take that long. Get well...
