Hi Gail! We typically recommend a wider-tire bicycle. The trails are made up of natural soil - the occasional tree root or other natural obstacle is to be expected, along with intermittent muddy areas and puddles. The further north in the park you travel (i.e. closer to the blue trail), the more loose, sugar sand you will encounter.
I haven't walked all the trails,but the ones I've been on pretty easy bike riding.mountain bike or nobbie tires.
You could hike the first time out, it is a pretty easy walking.
