If you have outstanding taxes and your city or town has placed a block against you in the DMV system, you will not receive a renewal notice and the DMV will not be able to renew your registration. Pay your property tax and have the Tax Collector send the clearance to the DMV.
No, it is not 40dollars. The renewal fee is based on the weight of the vehicle. Vehicles that have a gvw under 4000 lbs are $91.50, under 5000 lbs are $111.50 for a two year renewal, as the vechicle goes up in weight the price goes up. This is for regular passenger vehicles. Trucks are 1 year registrations and are too based on GROSS vehicle weight. Mini vans weight over 5000 lbs and usually are $127.50. vanity plates are much higher in price and can range $ 200.
