To get a Missouri Real-Id your son just has to go to any DMV with the correct documents! Keep in mind the REAL-ID is only for DOMESTIC flights. Your son will need: A birth certificate or passport A Social security card(or w2) Two forms of address verification.(like a bill or bank statement).

Same as anyone else, based off the info you've provided. Apply for a new license up to six months before his current license expires. I believe he may be able to simply get a state ID issued if it's more than six months before his license expires. However keep in mind, either option still requires the same criteria as for getting a passport. For example, if he owed back child support, with Missouri being a "Zero Balance" state (meaning they will deny you a passport if you have any arrears at all) it would still be either denied, or altered to disallow travel. Just one example. Hope it helps.
