There are four restaurants on the first floor and a number of others within walking distance. You are directly on the beach and there other activities available. Whether or not you want a car is dependent upon how much of the city you'd like to see.
Plenty to do near and at the resort...but if you are staying for more than a few days you might want a car
We had a rental car but we left the resort and explored downtown restaurants and live music.
