They have to maintain that lot and hire people to show you where to park and make sure the car is safe while you are on the cruise. It is the best cruise ever. You could get someone to drop you off and you Don't have to worry about parking fees.
There's no free public parking in the immediate area. Small lot managed by the neighboring business. All sidestreets state no side street parking. The beach lot around the corner is also private and no parking is allowed. The bay parking area has a 15 minute limit if I remember correctly. The adjacent parking lot or a long walk are your only options unless you are fairly close and pick up a reasonable Uber.
Paid Parking is Available for Whale Watching and All others using Barnstable Harbor for a fee. The Barnstable Courthouse on Route 6A offers free parking
It appeared that the car park ground was owned by a neighbouring business. The duration of the cruise still makes this worthwhile.
From what I remember the lot was ridiculously tiny. It shared space with a restaurant. If you can get past the parking situation the cruise was amazing. Saw lots of whales.. Definitely worth it. We went last June.
