The ear bud adaptor on my I pad is slightly larger than any buds I purchase. Do I need buds made by apple or is there an adaptor that allows any cheap ear buds work properly.

That would depend on if your IPad is an older version or a newer one...if older you might be able to find ear buds on Amazon or Ebay. If a newer version than you will most likely need to use Apple ear buds.
