Even if they have to send it out it may not cost you anything. My daughter has a iPhone 7 and it's about 3 years old.. it wasn't working and we brought it in and the nice guy did some diagnostics and came to the conclusion that it needed to be shipped out. We are way out of the 1 year warranty but the guy just took some information and said it would be no cost to us and also gave us a loaner phone that he loaded up with her info and everything is for free. I thought that was fantastic.
It really depends on the issue your phone is having they will check it out for free and it can be fixed right there it will be free but if it needs to get serviced it will cost you the amount is unknown bring it in
