Seems like it's sporadic, if caught with alcohol, they'll take it. But when we went no one was there. I think it just depends on luck of the draw.

Our bag was not inspected but they saw a bottle in the outside pocket and confiscated it.
Yes they do search some bags.
I have had both inspection and then the next day no inspection.
