Hi Tylia, while we cannot prevent former owners from coming to visit pets they have surrendered, we do discourage it. Animals, like humans, grieve the loss of significant figures in their lives and seeing a former owner can be very stressful and depressing for animals. Ultimately seeing a former owner can cause any behavioral progress they have made here at BARCS to regress. We know that surrendering an animal is a very emotional process, however, we do ask that you consider the well being of the animal as we want them to be as healthy and happy as possible during their stay here at our shelter.
If u surrendered the pet, it's probably best if you don't visit. Just my personal opinion. It can confuse the pet and stress them out.
It depends on the situation. Animals that are on behavior hold or on an investigation case, cannot be viewed by the public. If the animal is adoptable to the public, then anyone can come visit them during business hours.
