A fee is requested because that's how they can afford to keep up with the costs of rescuing dogs, of all ages, that need to be rehomed. The fee is a fraction of buying a purebred/designer puppy. It's really up to you and what works for you and your family. Shake A Paw is always offering rescue dogs at different prices. They were very helpful with my rescue. They are a great resource.
