Prices dropped off a few weeks back and then came up last week. Prepared steel was around 7.50 and cast iron 8. Or more. The secret is to take a larger load. Hold on to the scrap metal you have as much as possible and watch the prices, but caring a larger load yields a few bucks more than a small load. He has to pay the unloading guys and 2000 lbs or 1 ton of cast iron versus 5 tons or 10,000 pounds could be the difference between 7$$ a 100 or (.07 ) cents lb, for the ton and 10$$$ pound for 5 ton. Same goes for all the scrap metal under 100 for higher quality the scrap metal you have the better the price is. Just keep copper under 100 lbs or you have to show that it's not hot.
It varies..last i went plane steel was at 7 cents a pound
